despite my attempts at dancing around it, i’m still inching closer to d-day, or rather, b-day. in preparation for starting chemo and stopping nursing, i went to babies ‘r us for two particular purchases this afternoon. the first was the adiri natural nurser. the second was a package of soothie pacifiers. i wasn’t proud of either of these purchases. my daughter’s never taken a bottle and abandoned the pacifier by the time we left the hospital. but here we are, nearly sixteen months later, and i’m trying to sell her on these breast replacements. sigh.
we also bought potties. the boon potty bench for her bathroom and a simpler, pink baby bjorn little potty for the second
floor powder room.
my nerves are shot. my mom is back, and just in time.

We love you! Can’t wait to say all the wrong things to you tomorrow. Still looking for the perfect shoe to put in my mouth.

Hey girlie- I will be thinking about you tomorrow…I hope nugget gets through this as easily as possible. I will still search for my Adiri bottles if they work out well for you.

You know, I actually gave D a pacifier at 16 months – she never took one before, but we were moving (driving) across the country, and the thought of her having nothing in her mouth to stop the crying on that ever so long car trip made me ill. She took it just fine, and after the move was complete and were were all settled, we took it away (18 months) – it wasn’t difficult to do, either.
I think the boob bottle might be better for Nugget, just because she might fight to get a real nipple untaped. Don’t be too offended if she won’t take the bottle from you, though… she wants the real thing from Mommy, and a substitute boobie might only be taken from a substitute person…

bits of myself
she has lots of sippies that she does just fine with, but we thought we’d try the boob bottle for naps and bedtime.
i’d thought about an sns, and others have mentioned it, but i’m not sure that a taped over boob would cut it for nugget.
i’m so glad you commented. i’ve been wondering what your thoughts are on the situation and hoping you’d have words of wisdom. there’s very little info out there, anecdotal or otherwise, and for most people weaning is just no big deal.

Also, this may be a stupid idea, but have you thought of getting an SNS, taping your nipple over so she can’t get the chemo-milk and putting either pumped stash or plain old cow’s milk in the bottle so she can still suck at your breast, still get milk (though cow’s milk) and still have all the comfort of nursing?

We never did pacifiers and by the time I let the kids near them they weren’t interested. Nugget may not be either. Also, at 16 months you should be able to skip bottles altogether, shouldn’t you? Born Free makes a pretty good sippy she might like.
